College Football playoff. Can the Rays hold on?

Posted on: May 17, 2008 9:03 am

Urban Meyer may have whined himself into the NCG, but most of it was for a play-off, not just a chance to play in the NCG. College football needs a play-off more than anything right now. You've seen it happen so many times where 3 teams are atop college football and 2 have to share the title or 1 gets screwed. Also, we've all seen teams that lose their best player for a game and lose. The regular season does matter in college more than the NFL, but It shouldn't matter to the point where if a team gets off to a really bad start (Michigan) or has a really tough stretch of games and loses 2 or 3 (Florida), or loses their best player or quarterback for a game or two (WVU, USC) they can't win the title.

Administrators say that it is because it will run into another semester, but thw 200 weeks in between the regular season and bowl games could be subsituted for play-off games with 8-16 teams. You could also continue to play the bowl-games for the teams that don't make the play-offs.

But, the major conference heads decided against it. big 11 included. The SEC wanted a play-off even in a period where they will probabally get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to selecting who goes to the National Championship. Then, osWHO president or someone says that it will professionalize the game to much. Way to go osWHO, you guys just keep making college football worse.

The Tampa Bay Rays are atop the AL at this point. They just swept the Angles and took 3 of 4 from New York and won the opening game against STL. They have won 4 out of their last five series and are 8 games above 500 for the first time in their history. This team has very young starting pitching. All of their pitchers with the exception of 6 and 1 Andy Sonnanstine have an ERA under 4. That's pretty impressive. This was a hitting team last year so I think the bats will come alive. The bullpen is rock solid. Percival has completed 11 out of 13 saves. JP Howell went from being rocked as a starter to rocking as a reliever. David Price is still in the minors and when he gets called up, the bullpen or rotation becomes that much more formidable. I personall think that this team can continue to succeed and make a play-off run.

College Football playoff. Can the Rays hold on?

Come on dude, you didn't know Meyer is an Ohio guy, he graduated from Ashtabula H.S. and played DB for Univ. of Cinci., he got his first head coaching job at Bowl. Green, then Utah, now Florida.  Has a masters in sports Admin. from Ohio State,  I'm blown away if you didn't know that, you would of had to miss the 2007 NC game and the 2 months of hype everyday on sportscenter before that game, were you in prison, though from the shows i've seen on tv, looks like they even can see the tv
